Revit MEP Essentials | Session 2

Exclusive to ARKANCE Advantage members - Part 2 of 4 total sessions. A virtual course led by an Autodesk Certified Instructor, covering the fundamental knowledge required to use Revit MEP for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing projects.

Description

Revit MEP | Essentials is a comprehensive 4 sessions x 3.5 hours (Total: 15 Hours) virtual course led by an Autodesk Certified Instructor, designed for professionals in mechanical, electrical, fire, and hydraulic disciplines seeking to build a solid foundation in utilising Revit MEP on projects. This course covers the fundamental tools and workflows for creating and managing MEP systems in Revit, including project setup, modelling techniques, system analysis, coordination tools, and documentation practices.

During this course, you will learn how to use the core features of Revit MEP, starting with navigating Revit’s interface, setting up workflows, and linking architectural models to initiate an MEP project. You will learn how to configure levels, grids, and coordinate systems, which are essential for establishing a structured project environment. As the course progresses, you will explore how to manage views, control element visibility, and set up MEP spaces that integrate with architectural room data to ensure accurate system alignment. This course covers core modelling techniques for creating ductwork, piping, and electrical systems, including configuring routing preferences and exploring automatic layout options to streamline complex MEP designs. Further modules introduce Revit’s system analysis, model checks, and coordination tools, equipping you with essential skills to verify design accuracy, conduct clash detection, and ensure alignment across disciplines. You will also practise your documentation skills, learning how to use annotations, tags, dimensions, and sheet setup tools, enabling you to generate detailed project documentation for effective collaboration with external teams and stakeholders.

Upon completing the course, you will have a thorough understanding of Revit MEP’s core functionalities, enabling you to confidently work on live MEP projects. This foundational knowledge will serve as a strong base for advancing to more complex tasks and further developing your expertise.

Prerequisites

This course is delivered in multiple sessions, and participants are encouraged to attend them in the recommended order to support consistent learning.

To join the course, participants will need basic computer skills and a foundational understanding of mechanical, electrical, or plumbing design concepts. No prior experience with Revit MEP is required, but exploring the user interface beforehand is recommended.

System Requirements

Participants joining this course virtually will need:

  • Revit '22 or higher, or Revit LT '22 or higher installed on their computer (required). We strongly recommend that participants join using the most recent version of the software. Please contact us if you need to purchase a software licence.
  • The latest Zoom version installed on their computer (required).
  • A stable internet connection with a minimum download speed of 10 Mbps (required).
  • A secondary screen to follow instructions shared by the course instructor during training, along with a mouse for easy software navigation (recommended).
  • A headset to ensure clear communication with the instructor, and preferably a microphone and webcam for interactive conversations (recommended).

Learning Outcomes

During this session, you will explore the following topics:

  • Module 3 – Ducting | Routing Preferences | HVAC Systems: Practise modelling techniques to create ductwork, place duct accessories, flex ducts, air terminals, and mechanical equipment, as well as load families and configure routing preferences. In this module, you will explore how to connect ducts automatically, create duct systems, use the generate layout tool for auto-routing, and employ the system inspector to ensure your designs are efficient and meet project specifications.
  • Module 4 – Piping | Graded Pipes | Sprinkler Systems | Automatic Layouts: Learn how to design and connect piping layouts with linear and graded pipes. Explore automatic layout options for piping systems, including sprinklers, and learn how to place plumbing components and fixtures. You will also understand how Revit helps calculate fixture/loading units and size domestic water systems piping, ensuring your designs meet project specifications and local standards.

Courseware

Before the course, you will receive a Course Pack containing training notes and/or files that need to be downloaded prior to joining the training. Please note that our training sessions are not recorded to maintain the privacy of all participants.

As an Advantage member, you receive complimentary access to course-related eLearning materials to support your knowledge retention. Login details to the e-platform are provided upon joining ARKANCE Advantage.
