AutoCAD Plant 3D Essentials | Session 3

Exclusive to ARKANCE Advantage members - Part 3 of 4 total sessions. A virtual course led by an Autodesk Certified Instructor, covering the fundamental knowledge required to use AutoCAD Plant 3D for industrial plant design projects.

Description

AutoCAD Plant 3D | Essentials - Project Workflows for Designers is a comprehensive 4 sessions x 3.5 hours (Total: 15 Hours) virtual course led by a Certified Autodesk Instructor, designed for beginners looking to build a strong foundation in plant design workflows. This course is ideal for professionals who need to create and edit both P&ID schematic drawings and 3D plant models using AutoCAD Plant 3D’s tools and features.

Throughout the course, you will learn how to effectively manage project settings and create P&ID drawings, all while developing detailed 3D models. You will begin by setting up projects within the Plant 3D environment, utilising layers and colours to organise and streamline your designs for improved clarity and workflow. As the course progresses, you will work on adding equipment, piping, and instrumentation to your P&ID drawings, ensuring that all documentation aligns with project specifications and industry standards. Additionally, you will explore the generation of both 2D orthogonal and isometric drawings from your 3D models, ensuring accurate representation of plant layouts. The course also introduces foundational topics such as extracting reports from your drawings, creating essential P&ID symbols, and managing off-page connectors, all of which support collaboration between teams. These skills are designed to enhance your plant design processes, enabling you to execute projects more efficiently and effectively.

By the end of the course, you will have a solid understanding of 2D and 3D drafting concepts within AutoCAD Plant 3D. This essential knowledge will enable you to expand your skills and confidently approach more complex plant design challenges. You will also gain a good understanding of managing plant workflows, improving project outcomes and facilitating effective collaboration with teams across different stages of the project.

Prerequisites

This course is delivered in multiple sessions, and participants are encouraged to attend them in the recommended order to support consistent learning.

To join the course, participants will need basic computer skills and a solid understanding of plant design concepts. No prior experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D is required, but exploring the user interface beforehand is recommended.

System Requirements

Participants joining this course virtually will need:

  • AutoCAD '22 or higher, or AutoCAD LT '22 or higher installed on their computer (required). We strongly recommend that participants join using the most recent version of the software. Please contact us if you need to purchase a software licence.
  • The latest Zoom version installed on their computer (required).
  • A stable internet connection with a minimum download speed of 10 Mbps (required).
  • A secondary screen to follow instructions shared by the course instructor during training, along with a mouse for easy software navigation (recommended).
  • A headset to ensure clear communication with the instructor, and preferably a microphone and webcam for interactive conversations (recommended).

Certification

ARKANCE, an Authorized Autodesk Training Center, delivers high-quality training for Autodesk software users. To receive an official ARKANCE Certificate of Completion — a recognition of your commitment to ongoing professional development — you must attend all parts of the course.

Learning Outcomes

During this session, you will explore the following topics:

  • Module 5 – AutoCAD Plant 3D | Equipment | Piping Basics | Advanced Piping: Learn the fundamentals of 3D equipment modelling, piping basics, and advanced piping techniques. You will gain hands-on experience in creating and editing equipment models and piping systems, improving your efficiency in plant design. In this module, you will learn how to ensure that all components are correctly integrated within your Plant 3D environment.
  • Module 6 – AutoCAD Plant 3D | P&ID Data Integration | In-Line Assets: Understand how to integrate P&ID data to position piping and in-line assets accurately within your 3D models. This module will guide you in connecting your 2D and 3D design workflows, ensuring that your plant models are precise and meet project specifications. You will learn how to effectively translate P&ID data into accurate 3D designs.
