Civil 3D | Intermediate
A private course, delivered virtually or in person, led by an Autodesk Certified Instructor, covering intermediate features of Civil 3D for more complex civil engineering projects.
Description
Civil 3D | Intermediate is an intensive two-day private course, which can be delivered either virtually or in person, designed for Civil Engineers and Surveyors seeking to elevate their expertise in Civil 3D. Led by a Certified Autodesk Instructor, this course delves into advanced topics and tools that empower you to manage complex infrastructure projects with confidence.
Throughout the course, you will learn how to effectively navigate specialised tools within Civil 3D, significantly enhancing your productivity and accuracy in model-based design while streamlining your workflow. You will explore critical features such as kerb widening and overlay tools, which enable greater control and flexibility in your designs. These tools are essential for maintaining project accuracy and ensuring that your work adheres to specific requirements. You will also practise modelling techniques for cul-de-sacs and roundabouts, focusing on the principles of geometric design to create layouts that promote both safety and functionality. This hands-on experience will deepen your understanding of Civil 3D modelling principles and improve your capability to design intersections that facilitate efficient traffic flow. Additionally, the course covers the implementation of conditional assemblies, allowing you to create adaptive designs that respond automatically to changes in terrain or project specifications. You will discover how to customise feature and command settings to suit your workflows, ensuring consistency across your design outputs. As you progress, you will gain valuable skills in managing grading transitions, calculating reservoir volumes, and extracting data to Excel for comprehensive analysis. By developing proficiency in these areas, you will be well-equipped to address the challenges of modern infrastructure projects and enhance your overall design capabilities.
By the end of the course, you will have the confidence to handle complex design scenarios, optimise your workflows, and deliver high-quality infrastructure projects efficiently. You will be proficient in utilising the advanced tools within Civil 3D, enabling you to maximise its potential for effective and accurate design delivery.
Learning Outcomes
During this course, you will explore the following topics:
- Module 1 – Kerb Widening | Dummy Surfaces: Develop a thorough understanding of the techniques involved in kerb widening, allowing you to gain more precise control over road geometry and address specific project requirements. Additionally, you will learn how to create and use dummy surfaces as placeholders, which help maintain design clarity throughout the modelling process, ensuring your Civil 3D models are well-organised and adaptable.
- Module 2 – Overlay Tools: Explore the functionality of the overlay tools to sample and rebuild the existing surveyed conditions. You will learn how to integrate the new overlay tools into your workflow enabling efficient updates, all within your drawing-space in real time. This module will help you streamline modifications to your new designs, utilising the efficiencies gained from the new reporting tools in the process.
- Module 3 – Cul-De-Sac Modelling: Develop a comprehensive understanding of cul-de-sac modelling, refining your skills in geometric design for complex intersections. Gain proficiency in creating functional cul-de-sac layouts that adhere to project standards and real-world design requirements. This module covers essential design principles, helping you balance aesthetics and functionality while ensuring your designs facilitate efficient traffic flow and other design constraints.
- Module 4 – Conditional Assemblies: Learn how to effectively work with conditional assemblies, which enable dynamic design adjustments in response to varying conditions. This module covers creating adaptive designs that automatically respond to changes in terrain or project specifications, enhancing your ability to develop flexible and efficient models. You will explore best practices for implementing conditional assemblies, ensuring that your designs remain robust and adaptable throughout the project lifecycle.
- Module 5 – Feature Settings | Command Settings | Edit Band Styles: Discover Civil 3D’s feature and command settings, which provide you with control over how the software behaves in various scenarios. This module will then guide you through the process of editing band styles to align with both company standards and your specific project requirements. By utilising these tools, you will ensure consistency in your design output, thereby enhancing the overall quality and reliability of your drawings.
- Module 6 – Carpark String Design: Explore string-based modelling techniques that facilitate efficient carpark design. You will learn how to create carpark layouts that are dynamic to just one string line. Further, that string line is dynamic to an underlying surface allowing rapid updating of your design when project changes occur. These concepts can be expanded to other modelling scenarios, enhancing your overall design capabilities within Civil 3D.
- Module 7 – Roundabout Layout | Roundabout Design: Explore the principles of roundabout layout and design, covering everything from initial planning to the detailed execution. You will practise the critical steps required to model safe and efficient roundabouts that adhere to established design standards and meet the site requirements. This module emphasises the importance of adhering to the geometric design calculated by the initial planning tools.
- Module 8 – Grading Transitions | Reservoir Volumes | Tables to Excel: Explore the techniques for managing grading transitions to achieve smooth surface designs that meet project specifications. You will practise calculating reservoir volumes, gaining essential skills to ensure proper water management and compliance with design requirements. Additionally, you will learn how to extract data to Excel for analysis, enabling you to manage complex water management designs efficiently.
