Infraworks | Essentials PLUS
A private course, delivered virtually or in person, led by an Autodesk Certified Instructor, covering the fundamental knowledge required to use Infraworks for infrastructure design projects.
Description
Infraworks | Essentials PLUS is a comprehensive two-day private course, which can be delivered either virtually or in person, designed for beginners looking to build a strong foundation in managing larger-scale models and generating early-design concepts for infrastructure projects. Led by a Certified Autodesk Instructor, this course focuses on the essential tools and features of Infraworks, guiding you through the process of developing detailed 3D models, integrating diverse data sets, and creating compelling visualisations.
Throughout the course, you will learn how to navigate Infraworks' user interface and efficiently import a wide range of data, including GIS and CAD data, ensuring that your projects are built on accurate and comprehensive foundations. Using the Model Builder tool, you will develop detailed 3D models and explore techniques for customising design elements, such as creating roads, adjusting terrains, and integrating water features. You will also practise incorporating city furniture to add realism to your models, contributing to more lifelike urban environments. Additionally, the course covers the integration of Revit models and data transfer between Infraworks and Civil 3D, enabling effective collaboration across project teams. You will learn how to optimise your visualisations by adjusting sun and sky settings, as well as creating engaging storyboards and video presentations to communicate design concepts effectively. The course also focuses on essential engineering elements, including designing component roads with superelevation, creating intersections, and incorporating pavement drainage and culverts. Furthermore, you will explore techniques for calculating road and surface volumes for detailed reporting and how to leverage the ArcGIS Connector to integrate geographic data into your projects. This comprehensive approach will enable you to develop, refine, and present your designs with confidence.
Upon completing the course, you will be well-equipped to handle various design challenges using Infraworks, allowing you to develop high-quality models and conceptual designs. You will have a solid understanding of how to integrate data from multiple sources, customise your designs to meet project specifications, and present your concepts in a visually engaging manner.
Learning Outcomes
During this course, you will explore the following topics:
- Module 1 – User Interface | Importing Data | Navigation: Develop a solid understanding of the Infraworks user interface, learning how to navigate its various tools and panels with ease. Practise importing diverse data sets, such as GIS data, to ensure your projects are built on accurate and comprehensive information. Additionally, you will explore techniques to optimise navigation tools, helping you streamline your workflow and improve efficiency in the early stages of design.
- Module 2 – Model Builder | Creating Styles | Creating Roads | Editing Terrain: Discover the full potential of Model Builder, enabling you to rapidly construct detailed 3D models that form the foundation of your projects. Practise creating and applying styles to customise road designs, ensuring they align with project specifications. You will also learn how to edit and adjust terrain, shaping the design landscape to match real-world conditions and project requirements, enhancing the accuracy and realism of your models.
- Module 3 – Water Features | City Furniture | Surface Analysis | Style Rules: Learn how to create realistic water features, enhancing the visual appeal and accuracy of your models. Practise integrating city furniture elements to develop lifelike urban environments. You will also conduct surface analysis to quickly get some first order earthworks volumes. Additionally, explore the use of style rules to consistently apply characteristics to the objects in your model.
- Module 4 – Revit Models | Sun & Sky | Storyboards | Videos: Practise integrating Revit models into your Infraworks projects, allowing for a smooth transition between platforms. Learn how to adjust sun and sky settings to create realistic lighting conditions that elevate the visual quality of your designs. You will also explore techniques for creating storyboards and video presentations, enabling you to communicate design concepts clearly and effectively to stakeholders.
- Module 5 – Component Roads | Superelevation | Intersections | Civil 3D Transfer: Develop your skills in designing component roads, including proper alignments with curves and transitions, profiles, and superelevation. Practise creating efficient intersection designs that align with project specifications. Additionally, you will learn how to transfer models effectively between Infraworks and Civil 3D, facilitating collaboration and continuity in your design process.
- Module 6 – Decorations | Bridges | Shared Views: Explore techniques for enriching your designs with decorative elements, adding country-specific detail to your projects. Practise creating and refining bridge designs to ensure they meet project and aesthetic requirements. Additionally, you will learn how to create and manage 3D shared views, fostering collaboration with team members and stakeholders by sharing design progress and gathering feedback efficiently.
- Module 7 – Pavement Drainage | Culverts | Point Clouds: Learn how to integrate preliminary pavement drainage and culverts into your designs, ensuring effective water management. You will practise adding these elements to your projects, helping to prevent potential drainage issues. Additionally, explore the use of point clouds to improve the accuracy and detail of your designs, enhancing both the visualisation and precision of your project outcomes.
- Module 8 – Road Volumes | Sight Distances | ArcGIS Connector: Learn how to calculate road and surface volumes accurately, ensuring detailed and reliable reporting for your projects. Practice using the sight distances tools to make design decisions and improve project outcomes. Additionally, explore how to use the ArcGIS Connector to integrate geographic data, allowing you to extract meaningful insights that support informed decision-making throughout the design process.
