Revit Structure | Essentials - Buildings
A private course, delivered virtually or in person, led by an Autodesk Certified Instructor, covering the fundamental knowledge required to use Revit for structural design of building projects.
Description
Revit Structure | Essentials - Buildings is an intensive two-day private course, which can be delivered either virtually or in person, designed for professionals seeking to develop their skills in structural design and documentation using Revit. Led by a Certified Autodesk Instructor, this course provides a solid foundation in Revit’s core tools and workflows, enabling you to initiate and manage structural projects effectively.
During the course, you will explore Revit’s user interface and core functionalities, learning how to create and modify essential structural elements such as walls, slabs, columns, beams, foundations, and openings. You will develop practical skills in modelling stairs and railings, as well as in implementing basic steel connections to ensure structural integrity in your designs. Additionally, you will understand how to manage bracing and apply reinforcement detailing, ensuring compliance with industry standards. As you progress, you will gain confidence in generating construction documentation, including structural plans, sections, and elevations, to effectively communicate design intent to construction teams and stakeholders. You will also practise using essential documentation tools, including tags, legends, dimensions, and schedules, to organise and present project information in a clear and accessible format. These foundational skills will set the stage for the successful delivery of quality outputs across various building projects.
Upon completing the course, you will have developed the fundamental skills necessary to create precise construction drawings, manage key structural components, and apply industry-standard detailing techniques. This strong foundation will prepare you to take on more advanced structural design challenges and further expand your Revit knowledge.
Learning Outcomes
During this course, you will explore the following topics:
- Module 1 – Introduction | Starting a Project | User Interface | Levels | Grids | Reference Planes: Discover how to navigate the Revit interface and set up structural projects effectively. Learn how to create levels and grids to provide the necessary framework for your designs. This module also covers reference planes and their role in organising geometry, ensuring accuracy throughout the project lifecycle. You will practise applying these elements to manage the overall layout and coordination of your structural model.
- Module 2 – Walls | Slabs | Foundations | Openings: Learn how to create and modify walls, slabs, and foundations, key components of structural designs. Understand how to incorporate openings in these elements, ensuring the structural integrity of your model. You will also practise placing these elements in your design and modifying them based on project requirements.
- Module 3 – Columns | Beams | Bracing: Explore the parametric capabilities of Revit to place columns, beams, and bracing in your model. Understand how these components interact with other structural elements. In this module, you will practise adjusting these elements to suit specific design needs, ensuring your model accurately reflects the structural framework.
- Module 4 – Steel Connections | Reinforcement: Learn how to implement steel connections to ensure the stability and integrity of your structural model. This module introduces the fundamentals of adding reinforcement and teaches you how to accurately document these elements within your project. You will practise applying reinforcement details to ensure your structural designs comply with industry standards.
- Module 5 – Stairs | Railings: Learn how to create and customise stairs and railings to complement your structural design. This module covers the adjustment of stair and railing properties, including height, tread, and riser dimensions. You will practise modifying these elements and aligning them with your design to meet both structural and building code requirements.
- Module 6 – Structural Plans | Sections | Elevations | Details: Discover how to produce structural plans, sections, and elevations using Revit’s documentation tools. Learn how to add and manage intricate design details to ensure your construction documents reflect the required specifications. You will practise developing these documents to ensure clarity and accuracy in presenting design information.
- Module 7 – Tags | Legends | Dimensions | Schedules: Explore the use of tags, legends, dimensions, and schedules to communicate important project information effectively. Learn how to organise and present structural details clearly within your construction documentation. During this module, you will practise using these core tools to streamline the presentation of structural elements in your projects.
- Module 8 – Sheets | Presentation Views | View Templates: Learn how to organise and present structural designs on sheets for final project documentation. Understand how to utilise view templates to standardise views and improve the efficiency of your design process. You will practise creating presentation views and using templates to streamline project workflows and ensure consistency across your documentation.
