Revit Structure | Essentials - Bridges

A private course, delivered virtually or in person, led by an Autodesk Certified Instructor, covering the fundamental knowledge required to use Revit Structure for bridge design projects.

Description

Revit Structure | Essentials - Bridges is an intensive two-day private course, which can be delivered either virtually or in person. The course is designed for professionals aiming to learn the tools required to create and document 3D bridge models in Revit. Led by a Certified Autodesk Instructor, this course focuses on the core workflows necessary to produce comprehensive bridge designs, providing participants with a solid foundation in Revit's modelling and drafting tools.

Throughout the course, you will explore the Revit interface and its key commands for both design development and construction documentation. You will practise creating 3D models of essential bridge components, including decks, girders, approach slabs, abutments, and foundations, while learning how to adjust parameters for structural integrity and project-specific requirements. The course also covers the creation of reinforcement details, enabling you to meet compliance requirements and ensure the stability and safety of your designs. In addition to modelling, you will learn how to generate detailed construction drawings, including structural plans, sections, elevations, and grid details, providing a clear representation of your design intent. The course covers best practices for managing complex design data, teaching you how to use legends, dimensions, and schedules to organise and present key information efficiently. You will also discover advanced techniques for handling bridge profiles and complex control lines with vertical and horizontal curves, gradients, and crossfalls, ensuring your models are accurate and aligned with real-world construction challenges.

Upon completing the course, you will have developed the skills needed to create full 3D bridge models and produce detailed working drawings, optimising your workflow for efficient project delivery. These capabilities will allow you to handle complex bridge design tasks with confidence, ensuring precision and quality throughout the project lifecycle.

Learning Outcomes

During this course, you will explore the following topics:

  • Module 1 – Introduction | Starting a Project | Levels | Grids | Reference Planes: Discover the basics of setting up a bridge modelling project in Revit, laying the groundwork for an accurate and efficient design. Learn how to create and manage levels, grids, and reference planes, establishing a solid structural framework for your bridge design. These foundational skills ensure precision from the outset, supporting smooth project development and improving overall coordination with other design elements.
  • Module 2 – Decks | Approach Slabs | Girders | Abutments: Learn how to model key bridge components such as decks, approach slabs, girders, and abutments. You will practise adjusting parameters to meet your design specifications and ensure structural integrity throughout the model. This module provides you with the foundational skills needed to create accurate representations of essential bridge elements, helping you develop confidence in handling structural details and ensuring accuracy in your designs.
  • Module 3 – Structural Plans | Sections | Grid Elevations | Details: Explore how to generate structural plans, sections, and grid elevations for your bridge model, ensuring that every aspect of the design is well-represented in the documentation. You will learn how to manage and organise detailed design information, allowing you to create accurate and comprehensive views that align with industry expectations. By developing these skills, you will ensure that your construction documentation is clear, precise, and ready for use in the construction process, minimising errors and improving project outcomes.
  • Module 4 – Headstocks | Bearings | Wing Walls | Foundations: Learn how to model and adjust critical structural elements such as headstocks, bearings, wing walls, and foundations. You will practise placing these elements accurately within your design, ensuring they fully reflect the design intend. Understanding how to model these components is key to ensuring accurate setout and constructability, enabling you to create reliable models that meet strict government documentation and BIM requirements.
  • Module 5 – Barriers | Railings | Amending Profiles: Discover how to model essential bridge safety elements such as barriers and railings. You will learn how to modify profiles and adjust these components to reflect design intent and meet documentation requirements. Developing these skills ensures your bridge designs comply with strict government documentation and BIM requirements and fully reflect the design intent.
  • Module 6 – Reinforcement | Tags: Learn how to apply reinforcement to your bridge model, ensuring compliance with structural standards for full bar count and design requirements. You will also practise using tags to clearly communicate reinforcement details within your construction documentation, enhancing clarity and accuracy. These skills will ensure that your reinforcement design adheres to industry standards and is correctly documented.
  • Module 7 – Detailing | Legends | Dimensions | Schedules: Learn how to add detailed design information to your bridge model, meeting both the clarity and accuracy requirements for your documentation. You will explore how to use legends, dimensions, and schedules to effectively organise and present key structural data. These tools will enable you to create comprehensive and well-structured documentation, ensuring that all critical information is easily accessible and ready for use in project execution.
  • Module 8 – Complex Bridge Creation: Discover how to create specialised bridge families and profiles by utilising complex control lines with vertical and horizontal curves, gradients, and crossfalls. These skills are crucial for handling intricate bridge designs and producing accurate models that address complex terrain and design challenges, ensuring your bridge designs reflect BIM and project documentation requirements.
