Revit Architecture | Essentials - Landscaping
A private course, delivered virtually or in person, led by an Autodesk Certified Instructor, covering the fundamental knowledge required to use Revit Architecture for landscaping projects.
Description
Revit Architecture | Essentials - Landscaping is a comprehensive two-day private course, available both virtually and in person, designed for landscape design professionals looking to build foundational skills in Revit. Led by a Certified Autodesk Instructor, this course covers the unique tools and workflows required to create, edit, and document landscape designs, providing a thorough understanding of Revit's modelling and drafting concepts from a landscape perspective.
Throughout this course, you will learn how to navigate the Revit interface and set up landscape projects, including managing links and efficiently coordinating files from other disciplines to ensure smooth collaboration. You will begin with essential elements such as levels, grids, plans, sections, and elevations, which are crucial for establishing a structured project environment and ensuring design consistency. As you progress, you will explore topography tools, learning how to model natural landforms and modify terrain to represent site conditions accurately. You will also develop skills in designing stairs, ramps, and railings, focusing on adjusting their geometry and properties to integrate effectively within landscape environments and varied terrains. Additionally, you will work with elements such as walls, floors, and rooms to define space and calculate planting areas, enabling you to organise and refine planting layouts effectively. Documentation tools will be covered in detail, including the use of tags, dimensions, and schedules, to ensure your designs are presented with precision and clarity. The course also includes creating detail callouts and using detail components to clearly communicate specific aspects of your design. Finally, you will learn how to organise sheets, manage revisions, and print documents, equipping you with the skills needed to produce professional and comprehensive project deliverables.
Upon completing the course, you will have the foundational skills necessary to leverage Revit's powerful tools for landscape design. You will feel confident creating and documenting landscape projects, setting a solid foundation for further learning and more complex design tasks in Revit.
Learning Outcomes
During this course, you will explore the following topics:
- Module 1 – Introduction | Starting a Project | Links | Coordination: Learn how to navigate the Revit interface, focusing on project setup and coordination. This module will guide you through managing links and coordinating tasks efficiently, ensuring a smooth workflow for your landscape design projects. You will explore the steps needed to initiate projects, manage linked files, and coordinate between disciplines.
- Module 2 – Levels | Grids | Plans | Sections | Elevations | Scope Boxes: Gain hands-on experience with levels, grids, plans, sections, and elevations, essential for organising your landscape projects. This module will show you how to efficiently set up these components to ensure precise alignment and control throughout your model. You will also learn how to apply scope boxes to manage views and maintain consistency in your design documentation.
- Module 3 – Toposolids: Discover Revit’s topography tools, known as toposolids, which enable you to model and manipulate terrain for landscape design. This module covers everything from creating natural topography to modifying surfaces to reflect site conditions. You will explore how to use these tools to accurately represent landforms and create a landscape design environment.
- Module 4 – Walls | Floors | Rooms: Learn how to design walls, floors, and rooms for defining space and assistance in calculating mass planting areas in landscape projects. You will explore how to use these elements for spatial organisation and perform area calculations for planting layouts. This module equips you with the skills to model landscape components efficiently and ensure accuracy in your design.
- Module 5 – Stairs | Ramps | Railings: Develop skills in creating stairs, ramps, and railings, focusing on their application within landscape designs. This module guides you through the process of designing these elements, adjusting their geometry to suit landscape requirements, and ensuring they integrate effectively into your project. You will learn how to manipulate Revit’s geometry tools to create custom stairs and ramps for varied landscapes.
- Module 6 – Loadable Families | Tags | Dimensions: Explore how to work with loadable families, apply tags, and use dimensions to accurately document your landscape designs. This module teaches you how to integrate families into your projects and place tags and dimensions effectively. You will learn how to create clear documentation, allowing you to communicate your design intent accurately.
- Module 7 – Detail Callouts | Detail Components | Schedules: Learn how to create detail callouts and use detail components to enhance the clarity of your landscape design. You will also explore how to set up and adjust schedule properties. This module will guide you through the creation of detailed drawings to further develop your documentation skills, allowing you to clearly communicate all aspects of your projects.
- Module 8 – Sheets | Revisions | Printing: Discover how to organise your landscape design documentation onto sheets, manage revisions, and prepare your project for printing. This module covers how to structure your sheets for professional output, track changes with revisions, and ensure all deliverables are ready for client presentation. You will gain confidence in delivering a complete documentation.
