Revit Architecture | Intermediate - Family Creation for Interior Design

A private course, delivered virtually or in person, led by an Autodesk Certified Instructor, for proficient Revit users looking to enhance their skills in creating custom families for interior design projects.

Description

Revit Architecture | Intermediate - Family Creation for Interior Design is an intensive one-day private course, available both virtually and in person. Led by a Certified Autodesk Instructor, this course is designed for interior design professionals looking to refine their skills in creating custom parametric families in Revit. The course focuses on key techniques for building efficient and detailed families, helping you streamline your interior design workflow.

Throughout the course, you will gain a thorough understanding of family creation principles, beginning with an in-depth exploration of family theory and the Family Editor interface. You will learn how to manage parameters and formulas to control the behaviour and adaptability of families, providing a strong foundation for creating versatile components tailored to a wide range of interior design needs. As you progress, you will apply these principles to develop a parametric benchtop family, gaining hands-on experience in setting up controls for dimensions and design features. Building on this, you will learn how to develop a parametrically controlled casework family, exploring techniques to customise door frames, panels, and components visibility, giving you full control over each detail. Next, you will work on designing a flexible pendant lighting family that supports a variety of shapes and configurations. This module will introduce you to photometric data, enabling you to simulate accurate light behaviour to enhance the realism and quality of your project renders. By working through these examples, you will develop a strong skill set that supports the efficient creation of families, each adaptable to specific design conditions within the interior design environment.

By the end of the course, you will understand how to create and manage parametric families, empowering you to continue exploring more advanced family creation techniques. You will develop the foundational skills needed to deliver high-quality, visually appealing projects that meet functional requirements, reflect your design vision, and align with client expectations.

Learning Outcomes

During this course, you will explore the following topics:

  • Module 1 – Family Theory | Family Editor UI | Parameters | Formulas: Start by exploring family theory and the Family Editor interface. You will learn how to set up and manage parameters and formulas, giving you full control over the behaviour and flexibility of families in the project environment. This module provides the foundation for creating custom components with precision, ensuring that your designs can adapt efficiently to various interior design requirements.
  • Module 2 – Parametric Benchtop Creation: Learn how to develop a flexible benchtop family with independent control over design features like left and right return conditions. This module will guide you through defining key parameters such as length, width, and thickness, as well as visibility controls. You will learn how to create a benchtop that adapts to your design needs while maintaining consistency and accuracy in the project environment.
  • Module 3 – Parametric Casework Creation: Discover techniques for creating a parametrically controlled casework family, covering door frames, panels, and hardware. You will learn how to manage parameters to swap out the door hardware styles and types, giving you the ability to customise your casework designs efficiently. This module empowers you to create versatile casework families with full control over every detail.
  • Module 4 – Parametric Lighting Fixture Creation: Explore how to build a flexible pendant lighting family that supports various shapes and design configurations. You will also learn how to apply photometric data to simulate accurate light behaviour, ensuring high-quality visualisation in your project renders. This module provides you with the skills necessary to create lighting families that not only enhance the aesthetic of your designs but also function efficiently within the project environment.

Courseware

Before the course, you will receive a Course Pack containing training notes and/or files that need to be downloaded prior to joining the training.

System Requirements

Participants joining this course virtually will need:

  • Revit '22 or higher, or Revit LT '22 or higher installed on their computer (required). We strongly recommend that participants join using the most recent version of the software. Please contact us if you need to purchase a software licence.
  • The latest Zoom version installed on their computer (required).
  • A stable internet connection with a minimum download speed of 10 Mbps (required).
  • A secondary screen to follow instructions shared by the course instructor during training, along with a mouse for easy software navigation (recommended).
  • A headset to ensure clear communication with the instructor, and preferably a microphone and webcam for interactive conversations (recommended).

Participants joining this course in person will need:

  • Revit '22 or higher, or Revit LT '22 or higher installed on their computer (required). We strongly recommend that participants join using the most recent version of the software. Please contact us if you need to purchase a software licence.
  • A large computer screen, along with a keyboard and mouse for easy software navigation (recommended).

Additionally, the training venue should be equipped with:

  • A projector setup or a large screen enabling the instructor to connect their laptop, facilitating attendee visibility of the instructor's screen (required).

Prerequisites

To join the course, participants must be confident in their use of Revit Architecture. It is recommended that individuals have a thorough understanding of all topics covered in the Essentials course, along with at least six months of regular usage of Revit on projects. This foundational knowledge ensures full engagement with the intermediate concepts and techniques presented in the course.

Certification

ARKANCE, an Authorized Autodesk Training Center, delivers high-quality training for Autodesk software users. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an official ARKANCE Certificate of Completion, demonstrating their commitment to ongoing professional development.

Additionally, participants are encouraged to register their attendance with Autodesk Education to receive a Certificate of Completion from Autodesk. To obtain this certificate, participants must follow the steps provided in the confirmation email sent after registration and submit a post-training feedback survey within 60 days of completing the course.

Additional Information

Our private training sessions are offered at a flat rate per course and accommodate up to eight participants. Delivered on request, these courses can be conducted virtually or on-site at your venue.

The training can follow a standard agenda or be customised to align with your team’s specific workflows, existing templates, and project requirements. Please note that in-person training will incur additional travel costs, and pricing may vary for customised curriculums.
