Revit Architecture Intermediate - Interior Design

A private course, delivered virtually or in person, led by an Autodesk Certified Instructor, for proficient Revit users looking to enhance their skills in using Revit on interior design projects.

Description

Revit Architecture | Intermediate - Interior Design is a comprehensive two-day private course, available both virtually and in person. Led by a Certified Autodesk Instructor, this course is tailored for interior design professionals looking to further develop their skills in Revit. It covers core modelling and drafting workflows and concepts essential for effectively using Revit to deliver successful interior design projects.

During the course, you will explore a variety of Revit tools, beginning with geometry features and project setup techniques specifically tailored for interior design workflows. You will gain skills in setting up and coordinating projects efficiently, learning how to link external files and manage a collaborative design process. As you progress, you will learn how to manage project phasing, create area plans, and utilise visual elements such as colour schemes and colour fill legends, all of which are valuable for handling refurbishments and communicating design concepts effectively. You will also work with loadable and in-place families to create custom, unique elements tailored to the specific requirements of your projects. You will learn how to use the paint tool to apply finishes that enhance design realism. In addition, you will practise using Revit’s documentation tools, including material take-offs, FF&E schedules, and tagging, to ensure accurate representation and quantification of design elements. To further refine your designs, you will explore more advanced tools such as wall sweeps, curtain walls, and custom joinery creation (non-parametric), incorporating these into your interior projects for greater flexibility and detail. Additionally, you will learn how to create groups and design options, allowing you to manage repetitive elements and present multiple design solutions to clients within a single project. Finally, you will delve into 3D views and cloud-based rendering, gaining the essential skills needed to create compelling presentations and produce print-ready documents that effectively showcase your work.

Upon completing the course, you will feel confident using Revit to deliver interior design projects. You will understand how to manage interior design workflows, apply project phasing, and document your designs efficiently. With these skills, you will be well-positioned to take on more complex interior design tasks using Revit.

Learning Outcomes

During this course, you will explore the following topics:

  • Module 1 – Introduction | Starting a Project | Links | Coordination: Learn how to navigate the Revit interface, focusing on project setup, managing Revit and DWG links, and shared coordinates. This module introduces key techniques for establishing interior design projects, including managing external links and coordination processes. You will gain the foundational skills needed to set up projects efficiently, ensuring smooth collaboration and integration across your team and other stakeholders.
  • Module 2 – Phasing | Area Plans | Colour Schemes | Colour Fill Legends: Explore how to use project phasing for managing refurbishment projects and learn how to create area plans to communicate design tasks for interior spaces. You will also practise applying colour schemes and colour fill legends to enhance visual communication and support design decisions. This module equips you with skills to present your design concepts clearly and accurately.
  • Module 3 – Wall Sweeps & Reveals | Curtain Walls | Loadable Families: Discover how to use wall sweeps and reveals to add detailed architectural elements to your designs. This module also covers the creation and manipulation of curtain walls and how to incorporate loadable families to enrich your interior projects with various design elements. You will learn how to utilise these features to achieve greater design flexibility.
  • Module 4 – Groups | Design Options: Learn how to create and work with groups and design options to handle repetitive elements and multiple design alternatives. This module teaches you to manage different layout variations efficiently, and present multiple design concepts within the same project. You will also discover techniques for managing and communicating options to clients.
  • Module 5 – In-Place Families | Materials | Paint Tool: Understand the best practices and processes of creating in-place families for custom, project-specific elements. This module will guide you through developing materials and understanding how to use the paint tool to apply them to system families. You will gain the fundamental knowledge needed to create unique design elements and enhance the overall visual quality of your interior spaces.
  • Module 6 – Family Concepts | Custom Joinery: Explore the key concepts behind creating families, with a specific focus on custom joinery using non-parametric methods. This module will cover best practices for designing bespoke elements that are tailored to interior design needs. You will learn how to incorporate these elements into your projects, providing flexibility and creativity in your designs.
  • Module 7 – Tags | Material Take-offs | FF&E Schedules: Learn how to apply tags, perform material take-offs, and create FF&E schedules to document and quantify your designs accurately. This module covers essential tools for communicating your design intent clearly and ensuring that all aspects of the project are accounted for in your documentation. You will be able to streamline your design workflow and improve project accuracy.
  • Module 8 – 3D Views | Cloud Rendering | Printing | Q&A: Explore how to create 3D views and visualisations of your designs. This module covers the use of Revit’s cloud rendering tools to produce render images and the techniques for preparing print-ready documents. The session concludes with a Q&A, where you can ask questions and clarify any aspects of the course content.
