AutoCAD | Advanced
A private course, delivered virtually or in person, led by an Autodesk Certified Instructor, focusing on intermediate and advanced features of AutoCAD for complex design and drafting projects.
Description
AutoCAD | Advanced is an intensive two-day private course, which can be delivered either virtually or in person, designed for proficient AutoCAD users looking to enhance their skills and improve project workflows. Guided by an Autodesk Certified Instructor, this course dives into the advanced features of AutoCAD, focusing on productivity, customisation, and automation to streamline complex design tasks.
Throughout this course, you will explore a wide range of advanced tools and workflows designed to maximise your efficiency in AutoCAD. You will work with advanced text features, including annotative scaling and dynamic fields, to ensure clarity, precision, and consistency in your annotations across multiple views and layouts. Additionally, you will learn how to create and manage linked tables, which enable dynamic data updates within your drawings, ensuring that project documentation stays up to date and accurate. You will also explore the use of dynamic blocks to reduce redundancy in repetitive design elements while maintaining flexibility across various design scenarios. The course covers essential aspects of sheet sets for organising large, multi-drawing projects and introduces advanced layer management techniques to help you maintain full control over complex designs. Finally, you will practise customising AutoCAD’s user interface to streamline your workflows, improve overall project output, and discover how to automate repetitive tasks through macros and custom routines, ensuring you are fully equipped to handle even the most complex design projects with ease.
By the end of this course, you will have developed a comprehensive understanding of AutoCAD’s advanced functionalities, empowering you to handle larger and more complex projects with precision, efficiency, and confidence. You will be fully equipped with the knowledge to customise tools and workflows to suit your specific project requirements, ensuring maximum productivity and streamlined design processes in all your future tasks.
Learning Outcomes
During this course, you will explore the following topics:
- Module 1 – Advanced Text Objects: Understand the concept of annotative scaling and how it applies to annotating objects in multiple views. You will learn how to work with advanced text tools, including fields that dynamically display drawing information. Practise managing draw orders and applying wipeouts to ensure your annotations are clear and professional, allowing for efficient communication within your drawings.
- Module 2 – Advanced Tables: Learn how to create and manage linked tables in AutoCAD, connecting them to external data sources for real-time updates. You will practise extracting object data and integrating it into tables to enhance project documentation. This module will also cover how to apply table styles to improve the visual presentation of data, ensuring clarity and consistency in your drawings.
- Module 3 – Dynamic Blocks: Gain a comprehensive understanding of dynamic blocks and how they can streamline repetitive design tasks. You will learn to author dynamic blocks, define block attributes, and apply them to reduce your block library while maintaining design flexibility. Practise creating dynamic blocks that adapt to different design scenarios, enhancing your overall workflow.
- Module 4 – Block Attributes: Understand the use of block attributes to add metadata to your designs. You will learn how to create, edit, and synchronise attributes across blocks, improving efficiency and data consistency. This module also covers techniques for extracting attribute data into tables or external reports, enabling better documentation and analysis of your designs.
- Module 5 – Sheet Sets: Discover how to organise complex, multi-drawing projects using sheet sets in AutoCAD. You will learn to set up model views, manage sheet sets, and use existing layouts to streamline project communication. Practise creating and editing sheet sets to improve the organisation and delivery of project documentation.
- Module 6 – Managing Layers: Explore advanced layer management techniques to ensure consistency across multiple drawings. You will learn how to use the Layer Properties Manager, layer groups, and filters to efficiently manage layers. This module will also cover the creation and management of layer states and translations, ensuring that your drawings are accurate and well-organised.
- Module 7 – Customising the Interface: Learn how to customise AutoCAD’s user interface to suit your workflow. You will practise creating custom toolbars, panels, and workspaces, improving efficiency in your design process. This module will also explore personalisation options that help you save time on repetitive tasks and enhance overall project output.
- Module 8 – Macros | Routines: Discover how to create and implement macros and custom routines to automate repetitive tasks in AutoCAD. You will learn how to write scripts, run commands, and use AutoCAD’s Action Recorder to streamline your workflows, allowing you to focus on more complex design aspects of your projects.
Additional Information
Our private training sessions are offered at a flat rate per course and accommodate up to eight participants. Delivered on request, these courses can be conducted virtually or on-site at your venue.
The training can follow a standard agenda or be customised to align with your team’s specific workflows, existing templates, and project requirements. Please note that in-person training will incur additional travel costs, and pricing may vary for customised curriculums.
Please contact us to discuss organising this training for your team.
Prerequisites
To join the course, participants must be confident in their use of AutoCAD. It is recommended that individuals have a thorough understanding of all topics covered in the Essentials course, along with at least one year of regular usage of AutoCAD on projects. This foundational knowledge ensures full engagement with the advanced concepts and techniques presented in the course.
Courseware
This course includes 12 months of complimentary access to the course-related ASCENT Center for Technical Knowledge e-book (valued at 85 USD) which contains files that need to be installed prior to joining the training. This e-book provides comprehensive training notes that you can refer to after the training to further ensure your knowledge retention. Login details for the ASCENT platform will be issued a few days before the training. To learn more about ASCENT, please visit their website.
